Results and Race Report
Five Rivers MetroPark Regatta
Dayton, Ohio
October 12, 1997

The regatta was held on the placid waters of the Great Miami River and contested in a 2000 meter head type format.

Having competed successfully in the Master Nationals in the pair without cox, the Chase brothers of the Westerville Rowing Club turned their attention to the sculling events at the second annual Five River MetroPark Regatta in Dayton, Ohio on October 12. Matt Chase bested a strong field in the masters singles event with a time of 8:06.98, then teamed with twin brother Bruce, to win the masters doubles race by 6 seconds. The "Chase Gold Rush" continued when they rowed as the engine room of the winning masters quadruple scull, easily handling the Ecorse Boat Club entry. In the women's masters sculling events University of Dayton sculler Trish Miles easily won the single event, while the Ecorse entry of Schniedert & Toth finished ahead in the master double.

High school rowing was dominated by Toledo St. Johns Jesuit High School in the boys division and Toledo St. Ursula's High School in the girls division. St. Johns easily won both boys eights races, while St. Ursula's had a difficult time with the Westerville crews in winning their eights contests. In the coxed four events, St. Johns again finished first, but both of the girls coxed four events were won by the hosting crews from Dayton.

The college women's coxed four event was won by Bowling Green State University over the University of Toledo.
